Easy Setup, Works Very Well. I love how easy this smart plug was to set up. Just follow the instructions and you’ll be up and running in about two minutes or less! I am using multiple smart plugs from a different manufacturer that were installed prior to discovering this Amazon smart plug. They were a little difficult to set up, and they tend to stop working, causing you to repeatedly reset them. But that has not occurred with the Amazon smart plug. It was a breeze to set up and has not failed yet. It’s ultra reliable and works with Alexa, which is why I selected it. What I don’t like about it is that it does not integrate with Apple HomeKit. I’ve found that when one application fails to recognize my other plugs, I can control them with a different app, like Google, HomeKit and others. I hope that Amazon upgrades the system to include use with other control apps like HomeKit and Google, etc. Currently, it only works with Alexa. But I still give it 5 stars because it does what it was designed to do, and very well. I also love that it does not block your other wall plug, but you’ll have to be careful to use the correct type of power strip to ensure it doesn’t block adjacent plugs on the same strip. If you’re only using the Alexa smart home system, get this plug! However, you may want to consider others if you’re using multiple smart speaker systems like Apple HomePod & Amazon Echo smart speakers. I have purchased 5 of them, and I plan to purchase more.
Pretty impressed on the ease of setup but still prefer Z-wave devices. The only other smart plugs and switches I have currently are all Z-wave based (about 20) and I've never had issues with any of them and have them all programmed on schedules and various alerts as well as manual control. However, obtaining Z-wave based products are getting harder and harder because it seems the market is flooded with so many off-brand plugs and switches tied to a variety of ecosystems. My preference has always been for Z-wave because those devices operate on their own wireless band outside of my 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless networks and instead communicate only to a hub that is connected to the internet. I'm still not sold on switching out my smart devices for devices that need persistent internet access and consume wireless bandwidth but do like that this device is very easy to setup and use.I currently have this in my kids' room connected to a Vornado fan that they can call upon if they want some airflow in their room and not affect anyone else. I've used a Z-wave switch for this in the past and have controlled it for them or set it on a schedule because I didn't want them to have access to the SmartThings app to be able to control that device and others.Setup and adoption were easy, maybe a little easier than SmartThings. Calling out to Alexa to control the device is intuitive and works well to set timers and basic on/off.However, now that the device is on my wifi network, I see that it uploads and downloads 1-5KB of data twice an hour starting at about 9 minutes after the hour and again 5 minutes later with an Amazon server with "device-metrics" in the hostname. Not sure what it's doing exactly, my guess would be exchanging telemetry data or phoning home.Overall, it's a a good smart plug that's easy to use and can be trusted to some extent if you're already using Amazon devices in your home rather than tie yourself into some other ecosystem that sends data to a foreign country.
Great smart plug to go with echo. So I’m kind of new to the amazon device family. We just got our echo a few months ago. I’ve been a prime member for over 10 years so I’m familiar with how amazon has changed life as we knew it (for me anyway). I saw the amazon smart plug when I was searching for any brand smart plug that had Alexa control with it. It’s been in my cart saved for later for at least a month! I finally decided to just pre order it so that I could review it and hopefully help other people that are like me and have fallen way behind in the tech field. For reference I’m an almost 34 year old mom of 2. This means that my 8 year old stole my iPad, iMac, and I haven’t had a computer of my own in about 4 years! So I do everything from my iPhone. I’ve had some weird issues with our echo and my Alexa app that it will just randomly pause a song so I’m not sure what that is about.ANYWAY! I received my new amazon smart plug the day it was released (so glad it’s not like a new iPhone or PlayStation where people camp out ahead of time or do people still do this??). It was easier than I expected but harder than was described in the listing because my Alexa didn’t just recognize it.Setup:Since my Alexa didn’t recognize it on its own, I had to unplug the smart plug and quickly scan the code on the back of the plug, then plug it back in fast so that when it scanned for it it would see it plugged in. After that it was very simple. I was able to plug in my baby monitor and then tell Alexa to “turn off plug one” and it turned off! It is so cool!Future:I think homes will end up being built with these right into the electrical system. Maybe they already are.Comparing:With so many different brands offering smart plugs with Alexa integration I can’t see myself buying any more than 1 for $25. Too many are 2 for $20. While it’s nice to have the amazon support backing this up, I just can’t afford to fill my home with them at such a high cost comparative to other brands that do the same exact thing.Overall:If you can afford to fill your plugs with these then do! This smart plug is easy and awesome! But if you’re on a tight budget like I am, I would try a different brand first and see if those will work just as well.Every time I purchase something online, I always check the reviews. I count on others to help me choose the best option. My reviews are always my honest opinion and I try to include photos if possible. If my review has helped you in any way, please click the "helpful" button below so that I know! Great power extension. Compact and versatile power pack. The cord is flexible and we like the low profile plug. Nice to have more USB ports, as well.
works great. This power strip met our needs perfectly. It's lightweight and the cord is actually the length advertised. The USB chargers also work well and have good connections. The plugs are spaced adequately and I like how they are on 3 sides. It's a good value for the quality. Plan on purchasing more.
Perfect outlet strip. This thing is pretty good, the quality seems fine and the plug in is nice if your tucking it behind furniture. Love the USBs and the ten feet of cable is perfect.
